As most of you know I am travelling to Uganda for my study. As I am studying International Tourism Management & Consultancy I am obliged to have a placement in my third year. During the preparation period of the placement I noticed multiple placement options however I preferred the one in Uganda.
Something that might be interesting to have is a short introduction about Uganda. Uganda is a country that strived for its independence from Britain in 1962. Before the current president Yoweri Museveni took the stage, Uganda’s economy was ruined. The president has been credited for bringing political and economic stability to the country. He has improved human rights, notably by reducing abuse by the army and police. Tourism in this country is rather low with approximately 250.000 visitors. Almost 75% of the visitors come from other African countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda etc. Most of these travellers come for eco-tourism, adventure tourism and culture tourism, especially due to the diverse culture, landscape, flora and fauna.
I will be working for Rainforest and Community Tours (also referred to as RFCT). This organization supports three indigenous tribes; Boomu women’s camp, the Ruboni Community Camp and The Elephant Center, in return they help RFCT to show visitors the Ugandan way of life. The Ugandan wildlife, landscape and their own life can be seen through holiday communities or package trips.
I will be staying in both the Ruboni Community Camp and The Elephant Center, these are both in the south-west, close to the border of Congo.
The website of the Ruboni Community Camp is http://www.rubonicamp.com/
The website of the Elephant Center is http://theelephanthome.com/
I will fly tomorrow afternoon to Dubai and from Dubai I will fly to Entebbe (Uganda). Here I will arrive around noon on Saturday. I will be picked up by my contact person Felex.
Kwaheri,
Joëlle
