As I have returned on Monday from my weekend trip at The Elephant Center Campsite (further referred to as TECC), I have continued working throughout this week. As the location of TECC is more savanna like compare to the rich natural surrounding area at Ruboni (since we are located close by the Rwenzori Mountains national park) which ultimately makes TECC much warmer environment compare to Ruboni.
During my weekend stay at TECC I have taken the proposed village/hill walk as both of them are located in the same valley. This resulted in me walking almost 7 hours with an stop of 1.5 hours by listening to a person telling a short story and seeing the unexpected crater lake, as it is such a dry land and people actually have to travel for 1hr with a jerry just to get water. On the hand, the amazing views were definitely worth the long walk. Also, I have taken the self-guided walk around the shimmering of the evening as many bats and other colourful night animals come out, especially, the big beautiful night butterflies. In comparison to Ruboni, there were not so many insects which was a lovely change of events.
As I left on Monday morning to go back to Ruboni I went through Kasese Town. Here I stopped to buy some vegetables and fruits which are much cheaper on Monday since it is a market day. From there on I took a ‘’boda boda’’ back to Ruboni. As I arrived in Ruboni it was rather warm as it was waiting for the rain to drop on us, which is very much did the same day.
Love,
Joëlle
