Hello everyone,

It’s been a while since I have been in touch. It’s not that I forgot, but I was very busy and will continue to be busy during the weekend (more about it later). How are you? As I came back from my trip of Rwanda, I got sick and eventually I felt better. During the time I began to regain strength (as I had slept for around 4 days straight – not much food or water), business was a bit booming. We were about to finish a pathway at TECC and I got a nice experience of first hand corruption (see my next story ‘’First-hand corruption’’). As they were about to finish the path way I decided to go to Ruboni to regain full strength (as it’s a bit cooler than TECC).

In Ruboni I have been working on some assignments for my university as well as some assignments of the company.

As Ruboni will receive 12 clients for two nights on Friday the 3rd of June, some preparations have taken place. Sadly, yesterday (31 of May) the news reached us that the father of the cook has passed away after a two year battle with cancer. This has resulted in the cook returning home for the funeral.
The traditional culture of the Bakonzo tribe tells that her husband (who she is not yet officially married to in terms of the church) is not allowed to go to the funeral. Then, it’s an obligation for all who know her to visit the funeral (if you can afford it). Yesterday, one of Ruboni’s employees joined the cook to her parents’ home, which is located in Bwera, around 3 hours away.
As the cook will most likely stay here for longer than a week, we had to look for a solution. There used to be another option however this person left Ruboni without any notice around 1.5 week ago. The manager, Alfred, has rather not this person return as he showed disrespect when leaving. They prefer to solve the issues in a different way. Therefore, I suggested that the cook from TECC would come and help here. This has been arranged and he will arrive today.
Late in the afternoon, someone made a booking through me, for 4 people for two nights at TECC, surprisingly on Friday as well. So, entering the evening I was working on a solution. We have come up with the solution that 12 clients are prioritized over 4 clients. Therefore the cook of TECC will go to Ruboni and a cook (from a neighboring camp will come and help TECC). Myself, I will go to TECC and will manage the people over there. It has been a busy day and will be a busy weekend.

Love,

Joëlle
