Latgale trip

Hello everyone,
This is the first message sent in October. Last week (30/09)-(01/10), we went on a study excursion for two days. This was for the subject Study Excursion planning. This meant we had to plan a trip together and on the dates mentioned above we had the trip.
We planned the trip to Latgale, the region in the south east of Latvia.
Early in the morning of the 30/09, we left Valmiera. First we drove with the mini bus to a small place close to Gulbene, here we visited a cheesefactory. I was so surprised by the fact that the owner of this factory was just 22 years old and did everything by herself. You just could see she had the spirit to make something of her live!
After this we went to Rézekne, here we walked around a cultural centre before going to the castle ruins. Here we had a beautiful view from this city. Here, we also decided to go for lunch. After lunch we went to Rázna national park, here we visited the Makonkalns hills (also called the Mountain of the clouds). Here we had a beautiful view over a wonderful lake.
After this we went to Aglona, which is one of the most famous Catholic pilgrimage site in Latvia. It is striking that only this region of Latvia is predominantly Catholic, while the rest of the country is predominantly Protestant. In Algona we visited the Aglonas Bazilika. This was a beautiful Bazilika.
Then we went back to our guest hostel where we had a lovely dinner and spend the night.
The next day, 01/10, we visited a wine garden somewhere between Aglona and Daugavpils. After this we went o Daugavpils, this is the second biggest city of Latvia. In Daugavpils we walked through the centre and saw the most important highlights.
In Daugavpils we went to the Mark Rothko Centre, which is located in the fort of Daugavpils. Mark Rotho is one of the most famous and expensive painters in the world and he is born in Daugavpils, interesting
that I don’t recognize him.
When we drove back to Valmiera, halfway we stopped in Livini to have some dinner. Around 8pm we arrived in Valmiera.
I very much loved the trip and I hope more will follow!

Wat ben jij toch een bofkont dat je mooi Letland mag leren kennen. Prachtige trip gehad. Maak er een mooi verslag van.
