This is a little part out of my travel backpackers diary, that whatever I do during my trip. Anyways this is the part of the cyclone.. Hope you enjoy this story..
On Sunday morning 16-12-2012, we, Betty and I, were waiting for the cyclone to hit Fiji. Around 5 pm we heard on the radio that Fiji will probably be hit tomorrow.
Early on Monday morning around 06.50 the rain started. About half an hour later the radio told us that the cyclone is going to hit us later that day.
At 12.30 the cyclone started. We saw a bit of rain and felt the wind.
At 13.00 the electricity disappeared.
At 13.30 we started to get everything inside.
At 14.20 it is raining, a lot trees want to break and fall down. We just heard on the radio that the eye of the cyclone is 230 km/h. 'This is what they littelary on the radio'
At 15.20 the rain is even worse and the wind is very strong.
Around 15.30 the water doesn’t come out of the tab anymore.
At 16.20 nobody could sent any text message to anybody.
At 16.30 people are relaxing, hanging around.
At 18.00 people are trying to take a little nap.
At 19.30 people woke up and starting looking around if we could see any damage. We still couldn’t go outside.
At 21.00 we had roti for dinner.
At 22.00-22.30 it was totally quiet for a few moments.
At 22.30/23.00 we went to bed.
At 02.45 I woke up and the storm was still on.
At 07.20 I woke up, and checked the damage around the house.
At 09.30 we had breakfast.
At 10.20 me and Betty went to our house, when we arrived we saw a big palm tree on the top of the house. It had destroyed the whole front.
The next day around 5pm we got water, this water wasn’t drinkable at all. So you still needed bottled water, which you were not able to get.
And on Thursday the electricity came back on.
Everybody was so happy! And I can definitely tell you that I appreciate water and electricity way more than I did before. And that I can’t take something like that for granted.
Moce & Take Care,

Corien En Jan:
