Dear,
In the afternoon of the 26st I saw my mom. It was and is very nice to see her after quite a while.
The next day we would leave early in the morning to go to Banaue and we would have a stop to visit Mount Pinatubo. Mount Pinatubo was a beautiful place, such a interesting volcano, the way up to it was adventures.
In Banaue we visited the Batad rice terraces and the waterfall, which was a beautiful heritage. It was definitely a once in a life time experience. Only when we walked back we heard that there was somebody missing. (Two days later, we heard in the car that his body is found 3 km further down the river, because of the rain he probably drowned and died.)
Our guide also told the story that once a woman committed suicide, because she was pregnant and her boyfriend left her. She killed herself around the waterfall and every year one guy dies in this waterfall, because of this all the village people believe the story of the woman is true and also that if you don’t watch out you will be next one.
The next day we stopped at a view point to take some pictures, the moment we wanted to leave we got a flat tire. This sucks, but you can’t do much but waiting. So we waited and visited the hanging coffins, early in the days the native people would be buried in a coffin hanging on a mountain. It was interesting and a little strange to see this. We also visited a cave where the hanging coffins where. The last activity would be seeing a cave and swimming inside a cave, only the moment we went there somebody had inside the cave a fatal accident. This was also because of the heavy rain, which makes some things very dangerous.
Later we talked about it and realized if we didn’t have a flat tire, we could have been there at the moment of the fatal accident and that would have definitely given all of us a trauma.
When we drove back we tried the Balut, however I tried it and my mom just drank the soup and said no way. So I did it by myself.
Anyway maybe we are a little lucky that we had the flat tire.
Love,
Joëlle
